About Us

Leaf River Energy Center is a high-deliverability natural gas storage hub strategically located in southeastern Mississippi. Consisting of three salt caverns with a combined natural gas storage capacity of 32.2 million dekatherms, it is the third largest underground salt cavern storage facility in the Gulf Coast region. Its 40-mile, dual 24” pipeline header system interconnects with seven natural gas pipelines – Tennessee Gas, Destin, Transco, Southern Natural Gas, Midcontinent Express, Gulf South, and Venture Oil & Gas – and serves as a critical bridge between the shale plays and the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast markets.

The professional team at Leaf River expertly manages this premier natural gas storage facility to provide supply arbitrage, reliability, and balancing services to utilities, pipelines, marketers, and power markets in the Gulf and Southeast region.

Leaf River is owned and operated by NJR Midstream, also known as Storage and Transportation (S&T). S&T serves customers from local distributors and producers to electric generators and wholesale marketers through its pipeline and storage assets.

S&T is part of the New Jersey Resources (NJR) family of businesses. NJR is a leading energy infrastructure and energy services company - and a Fortune 1000 company - that provides safe, reliable natural gas and clean energy services, including transportation, distribution, asset management, and home services.
